Bloodstone is a type of green chalcedony with red inclusions that look like splatters of blood. It was also called "heliotrope". It is one of the birthstones for the month of March. I am very partial to rough or natural bloodstone v. the tumbled variety. Some rocks still have a nice buzz after being tumbled, bloodstone is not really one of them, imho. Tumbled bloodstone is very flat and meh to me. Rough bloodstone is potent, useful, and kinda sexy.
I use bloodstone in instances where I need extra vital energy and when I need to recover from depletion of my strength. There is also a deep centering and aligning energy to it between the heart and the root chakra, and then into the Earth. It has decidedly shamanic energies and I would even go as specific to say that it had "bear" totem energies when I've interacted with it. It is a stone I would grab when it was time to "go within" to hibernate in order to restore myself.
